Young Ideas for Europe goes global for climate justice

The Road to Copenhagen (RTC) initiative invited Young Ideas for Europe to participate in making the voice of youth heard at its high level conference "Sustaining People and the Planet: A Fair Deal in Copenhagen". Co-chaired by Margot Wallström, Vice-President of the European Commission, Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and Gro Harlem Brundtland, former Prime Minister of Norway and UN Special Envoy on Climate Change, its main goal is to bring together key stakeholders to contribute to and help shape the post-2012 climate change regime. The conference will take place in Malmö, Sweden from December 8th-9th, during the first days of the UN Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen (COP 15).

Together with the Youth Forum of Kofi Annan’s Global Humanitarian Forum and Save the Children, Young Ideas for Europe will engage in a workshop on climate justice. The goal will be to develop the youth’s expectations of COP 15 regarding climate justice and their respective demands for action that must be taken by politicians gathered there. They will then present their recommendations to all RTC conference participants as well as meet with key decision-makers. Finally, they will accompany Margot Wallström, Mary Robinson and Gro Harlem Brundtland on their route to Copenhagen to officially deliver the RTC message to leaders and decision-makers.

Young Ideas for Europe participants were selected from those countries which already implemented their project week, i.e. the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden.

Young Ideas for Europe on the Road to Copenhagen – an inimitably valuable learning experience!
